Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | October 23, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage and all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets left Dallas with just one point after the Stars tied the game late in the third period before winning it in overtime. Winnipeg is back home today, where they were scheduled to hit the ice for practice as they prepare for the Heritage Classic, but that session has since been cancelled. The next time they’ll hit the ice will be tomorrow at 4 PM CT for practice. I suspect the reason for today’s cancellation has something to do with what we’ll discuss in the next note.

Note II: Today marks the end of Connor Hellebuyck’s suspension, although the expectation, as reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger, is that the Jets and the three-time Vezina Trophy winner’s camp could agree to delay the physical required for his reinstatement. The move would allow the Heritage Classic weekend to take centre stage without the ongoing situation overshadowing the festivities.

Note III: The Moose are back in action tonight in Iowa as they look to put their second loss of the season to the Griffins in Grand Rapids behind them. They’ll face a Wild team that sits at 3-3-1-1 on the season and hasn’t been nearly as prolific offensively as Manitoba. Puck drop is at 7 PM CT.

Note IV: All of which should provide plenty of talking points in the days ahead on the Daily Dose of Illegal Curve Hockey Show. Be sure to join us Monday to Friday at 3 PM CT on the IC YouTube channel and across our other social media platforms as we keep you up to date on everything happening with the Jets and Moose.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Another strong outing from Skinner, but Jets unable to lock down lead. (Paywall). This may already be one of the best free agent signings in Winnipeg history and if he continues along this trajectory it could be the best one ever. While I understand that’s a tad hyperbolic for seven games played he has been very, very impressive to date. (although for now that honour probably still belongs to Mathieu Perreault)

Winnipeg Free Press: Puck set to drop on Heritage Classic festivities. (Paywall). Heading down to Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday to get my press credential made the game feel a bit more real and now with no Jets games between today and Sunday it really does come into focus. Also helps when Colby was down there as well and shot some great photos.
