Notable:
The refs called way too many penalties against both teams in the opening period of play. The home team took advantage of a 5 on 3 when captain Connor Bedard opened the scoring with his first of the season.
With Chicago looking like they were rolling, Neal Pionk took advantage of a nice Brad Lambert rush and then a Morgan Barron feed for his first goal of the season to bring Winnipeg within one.
The visitors looked discombobulated after 20 minutes being outshot 14-8 and outscored 3-1.
The Jets avoided a big problem when Viggo Björck left the ice after he collided with a Hawks player along the boards. The good news was he returned shortly thereafter.
And while he was in the room the Jets made it a one goal game as they lit the lamp on the power play courtesy of Kyle Connor’s 8th goal of the season which tied him for the NHL lead in goals scored. It’s also his fourth PPG which is impressive given he had five all of last season.
The comeback was completed in the 3rd period as Alex Iafallo went to the net and was rewarded with his second goal of the season to tie it 3-3.
In extra time both teams had excellent chances to win but in the end the Hawks took advantage of a miscue between Perfetti and Björck to get the extra point in a win.
Health Update:
Arniel post-game said that Vlad Namestnikov, who had crashed into the boards during morning skate as per Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press, felt worse as the day progressed (hence Brad Lambert playing in his spot) and will be examined when they get back to Winnipeg. For now he’s listed as day-to-day.
