Game 3: Winnipeg Jets vs Pittsburgh Penguins pre-game report

A look at the projected lineups and latest updates ahead of puck drop.

The Jets left Detroit on Sunday with two points in the standings bank after picking up their first road win of the season, 3-2 over the Red Wings. It was another afternoon where Tyrel Bauer earned the admiration of his teammates and Jets fans, while Winnipeg’s power play continued its red-hot start to the season.

Today will also be our first chance to see goalie Clay Stevenson between the pipes for his new Jets team. I suspect we will see Cole Koepke spell off Nino Niederreiter, while Winnipeg doesn’t have another centre to replace Vlad Namestnikov, who took two penalties in yesterday’s game, so it would appear he’s safe for now.

They are now in Pittsburgh to face a Penguins team that has opened the season 2-0, scoring 13 goals in the process. Pittsburgh is coming off a wild 6-5 overtime win over Montreal in which they built a 5-1 lead before needing an overtime winner to escape with the extra point.

Odds:

Winnipeg enters Pittsburgh looking to build off Sunday’s road win in Detroit, with the Jets carrying a slight edge into tonight’s matchup. Staying disciplined, continuing to generate on special teams and limiting Pittsburgh’s high-end skill could go a long way toward making it two straight away from home.
