Three of the four rinks at Hockey for All Centre were blocked off as the Jets held their production day ahead of the regular season.
Before anyone else took the ice, I was told Elias Salomonsson skated on his own as he continues working towards a return from the shoulder surgery that ended his playoffs with the Moose last April.
The early group included:
F: Wagner, Burnside, Cloutier, He, Julien, Walton, Wahlin and Barlow
D: Mayo, Freij, Ta’amu, Gustafsson, Thrun, Phillips, Bauer, Sautner and Taillefer
G: Worthington, Milic and Poulter
The second group featured the bulk of the Jets players on hand:
F: Namestnikov, Niederreiter, Björck, Koepke, Lambert, Yager, Ford, Chibrikov, Zhilkin, Vilardi, Connor, Rosén, Gregor, Scheifele, Perfetti, Barron, Lowry and Iafallo
D: Ferraro, St. Ivany, Pionk, Fleury, Morrissey, Samberg and DeMelo
G: Skinner and DiVincentiis, along with Jets EBUG Cole Kehler
One thing I noticed before the skate began was Yager and Björck spending some time tooling around the ice together.
Also “of note”, top centre Mark Scheifele played defence for his squad for almost the entire scrimmage, perhaps looking to add a little more defence to his game.
The only players not seen skating today were Connor Hellebuyck, unsurprisingly given his trade request, and Walker Duehr, who appears to be dealing with something. Otherwise, it appears the Jets will enter training camp with a healthy group.
The players will undergo medicals tomorrow before hitting the ice Thursday for the first official day of training camp.
