NHL Tonight | Elliotte Friedman on the Winnipeg Jets and Connor Hellebuyck’s future

Elliotte Friedman weighs whether Connor Hellebuyck’s public trade request changes anything for the Jets, and which potential suitors may have already used the assets Winnipeg would want.

Video Description:
Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman joined NHL Tonight to discuss a number of topics, including Connor Hellebuyck beginning around the seven-minute mark.

Dave’s notes:
Friedman was asked whether he believes Connor Hellebuyck will start the season with Winnipeg. He said one of the biggest challenges is that assets previously available, including players without trade protection and draft picks, are no longer on the table.

He noted the Panthers were “in this hot,” but felt that after dealing significant pieces to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk, they no longer had enough to acquire No. 37. He added that Buffalo had been prepared to move the fourth-overall pick. Friedman doesn’t believe Hellebuyck going public materially changes the equation, ending with the question: “What pressure do the Jets feel, if any, now that it’s public?”
