Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | July 24, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: We spoke with Jets management, prospects and staff throughout draft weekend and Development Camp, and we’ll continue turning the most newsworthy comments from those interviews into standalone stories in the coming weeks.

Note II: The Jets are down to just one RFA, as defenceman Tyrel Bauer has yet to sign a new contract. It’ll be interesting to see whether they consider a Johnny Kovacevic-type deal, one with a bit more term in the hope of discouraging a waiver claim.

Jets news:

NHL.com: Ehlers rides in Lamborghini with Stanley Cup, receives warm welcome in Denmark. The Dynamic Dane was riding around his hometown accompanied by the Stanley Cup.

The Athletic Chicago: Patrick Kane returns to Blackhawks on a two-year deal. (Paywall). While the fact that No. 88 is back in the Central Division makes this story relevant, the real reason for its inclusion is retired Jonathan Toews, who admitted he’s a little jealous that the Buffalo product is returning to the team where the two began their NHL careers.

Daily Faceoff: ‘It hurt not playing’: Morrissey on injury during 2026 Olympics. Not a surprise that this topic came up during his extended chat on the Barn Burner podcast.

Jets alumni game:

Illegal Curve Hockey: Former Jets players looking forward to Heritage Classic alumni game reunion with fans. Blake Wheeler’s recent comments about never getting to say goodbye sparked a look at how this event means something more for many former Jets who left Winnipeg without that final farewell.

Illegal Curve Hockey: Wheeler hopeful the GST line reunites at Jets alumni game. The only thing standing between a GST line reunion is Chris Thorburn’s availability, something Blake Wheeler hopes gets sorted before the alumni game.
