Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | May 23, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets are done. The Moose are done. We will still try to get you anything relevant to the pro hockey clubs of Manitoba during the next little bit. Of course the big focus is on the 2026 NHL Draft for which the Jets hold the 8th overall selection. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the players who could hear their name get called by Winnipeg at the end of June.

Note II: For a second straight day it was a busy day for Jets and a former prospect. Ville Heinola was picking corners as he fired home a pair of goals for Finland. Leon Gawanke (2017 5th) picked up a hat trick for Germany.

Note III: Two hours of hockey talk coming your way on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on Saturday at 9 AM. We cover all the latest with the Winnipeg Jets, touch on the latest doing with the Moose and take a look around the NHL. In the first hour of the show we will chat with Jets reporter Jamie Thomas and then in the second hour of the show, we will be joined by TSN’s Craig Button to talk about the NHL Draft. Join us here.

Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg: Projecting Cole Perfetti’s next contract with the Jets. (Paywall). I suspect when all is said and done the two sides end up working a five-year deal out. Murat with an interesting look at the contract from a variety of perspectives.
