The Moose took Game 1 of this best of five series with the Griffins on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 1-0 courtesy of a late game-winning goal by their captain on the power play and an incredible 39-save shutout by Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis.
While he was quick to say he has tons left in the tank if he was asked to start today’s re-match that is the big question mark for the coaching staff. Will they roll with the Ontario product or will they turn to fellow prospect Thomas Milic who played in Game 1 of their first round series and has not played since.
Also notable was the play of prospect Garrett Brown who made his pro debut yesterday and didn’t look out of place. In fact post-game, head coach Mark Morrison seemed quite happy with what he saw from him.
When it comes to the Griffins it seems like they may go back to Sebastian Cossa, not that the loss was on starter’s Michal Postava who was excellent in the loss, but he’s played 41 games to 25 of Postava. But that may have to wait until warm-up to be determined.
Special teams were big for Manitoba as not only did the power play prove to be the only goal of the game they were able to kill all three penalties they took in the game.
