The Moose closed out their regular season in Iowa as they needed two points to tie the Stars for 3rd in the Central although they also needed Texas to lose in regulation. Manitoba holds the tiebreaker over Texas when it comes to regulation wins which would allow them to avoid having to play in the first round of the playoffs.
Lineup news:
Tyrel Bauer returned to the lineup after missing two weeks. He came in for Lukas Gustafsson. Fabian Wagner was also back coming in for Chase Yoder while Domenic DiVincentiis got the net from Thomas Milic.
Moose lineup:
Shaw-D.Gustasson-Duehr
JAD-Zhilkin-Fagemo
Barlow-Ford-PDG
Wagner-Julien-Wahlin
Sautner-Bauer
Anhorn-Clague
Phillips-Barteaux
DiVincentiis
Notable:
The Moose had a half dozen chances to score in the opening period but found themselves down 1-0 after the Wild opened the scoring with a power play goal. The visitors actually have the 3rd best PK on the road in the AHL but weren’t able to get the kill.
Jets prospect Jacob Julien tied the game in the 2nd for the Moose as he gets the party started for Manitoba. That’s his third goal of the season but all three have come in the last seven games.
Jets prospect Colby Barlow kept things going for the Moose as his 7th of the season gives the visitors a 2-1 lead. Gave him four goals in the last eight games (but he was not done scoring). Nice move by him as his confidence continues to show itself in first season as a pro.
Barlow had his first ever multi goal game as a pro taken away three days ago by a phantom goalie interference call. Not tonight as he has his first ever multi goal game. Gives him eight on the season, five in his last eight games. Confidence level high!
This looked brutal for David Gustafsson who played just two games in almost two months for the Moose. He played a pair of games about a month ago and then returned to action this weekend. Good news is he stayed on the bench and took a shift on the power play.
Guess Parker Ford got tired of assists (had two already although there would be a scoring change and one of Barlow’s goals was changed to unassisted) as he cleans up in front to make it a 4-1 game for the Moose.
Moose outshot the Wild 16-3 in the middle frame scoring four times to take a 4-1 lead into the 3rd period.
That’s a way to remember your 400th game in the AHL as Phil Di Giuseppe makes it a 5-1 game for the Moose with a shorthanded goal. He had 1 shorty before coming to Manitoba (328 games) but in his 72 in antlers he has four. Moose have 12 as a team (tied for 2nd in AHL).
First pro goal for Lucas Wahlin as he makes it a 6-1 game for the Moose. Both his first pro assist and pro goal came from behind the net.
Moose temporarily move into 3rd in the Central BUT they need the Stars to lose (currently winning 4-1 late in 3rd). If Stars hold on to win they would be 3rd and face the 2nd place Wolves in the second round. Manitoba would host Milwaukee in the first round.
Update:
The Stars would win big over the IceHogs which clinches 3rd for Texas and locks Manitoba into 4th which means they will face the Admirals starting on Wednesday here in Winnipeg in a best of three series.
Multi-point game:
Parker Ford 1G 2A
Colby Barlow 2G
