Winnipeg Jets fall from Presidents’ Trophy to elimination as Kings clinch final West spot

Last season they finished with most points in the NHL. This season, not so much.

The Jets weren’t expected to be the team to finish the 2024-25 season with the most regular season points but that’s just where they finished ending the year with a 52-22-4 record. When the 2025-26 season began they raised the Presidents’ Trophy banner to the rafters of Canada Life Centre.

While many expected them to take a step back for the 2025-26 season they were still expected to be in the mix despite losing the dynamic Nikolaj Ehlers. We will do a deeper dive on this site and on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show when the season officially comes to an end.

But just to illustrate the difference between the 2025-25 version and the 2024-25 one, the Presidents’ Trophy winners didn’t suffer their 22nd defeat of the campaign until April 13th. This year loss 22 on the season came on January 8th.

The Winnipeg Jets were officially eliminated with the L.A. Kings defeat of the Kraken. They become the fifth team to ever go from Presidents’ Trophy to out of the playoffs joining:

1992–93 New York Rangers
2007–08 Buffalo Sabres
2014–15 Boston Bruins
2024–25 New York Rangers
