Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | Apr 8, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: This year the local Winnipeg chapter of the PHWA has nominated Jonathan Toews as the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy nominee for Winnipeg.

Note II: The Jets held an optional practice yesterday as they looked to take advantage having a couple of days between games. They woke up this morning one point further back as the Predators won yesterday meaning Winnipeg sits four back of the final wild card spot. They have an 11 AM CT skate scheduled today before they take off for St. Louis where they will face the Blues during their one-game road trip. Check back for the Practice Report to get fully up-to-date with the latest news.

Note II: The Moose hosted the Admirals last night in a game which featured the fastest goal in Manitoba history. The home team actually scored four goals before their lead got whittled down by Milwaukee but goalie prospect Thomas Milic stood tall in the final moment to preserve the 4-3 win and help his team punch their tickets to the post-season. These two teams will have a re-match this evening at 7 PM CT.

TSN: Celebrini willing Sharks’ playoff push, Jets lurking in crowded fight for final wild-card spot. Wouldn’t it be something if that final game of the season between San Jose and Winnipeg had some meaning.

Winnipeg Free Press: Accolades pour in for Scott Oake ahead of impending sendoff. Hard to think of the HNIC broadcast without the veteran Winnipeg journalist.

Sportsnet: Do the Jets need an off-season reset regardless of how this ends? The FAN Hockey Show’s Matt Marchese and Mike Futa along with guest, Kyle Bukauskas, a Sportsnet NHL reporter, discuss whether the Winnipeg Jets need an off-season reset, even if they push for the playoffs.
