The Moose are in quite the slide having lost three straight games coming into this game which has really precluded them from securing a playoff spot. While they are unlikely to fall out as they have an 11 point gap over the IceHogs who are currently out of the post-season picture, they did have a good chance to catch the Wolves who are in 2nd or at least get home-ice over the Stars. Now they are simply hoping to stave off the Admirals who are only three back of them coming into tonight’s action.
Lineup news:
We learned this morning that both Parker Ford (here) and Danny Zhilkin (here) had been recalled on an emergency basis by the Jets which puts the Moose down two key forwards. They are still without David Gustafsson who is dealing with an injury. Prospect Alfons Freij would miss his second straight game with illness. Tyrel Bauer, who has missed the last two games, did take warm-up as it appeared the Moose would go 11/7 but they ultimately didn’t use him as Winnipegger Reece Vitelli, who had been recalled earlier, was good to play so they could go 12/6.
Moose lineup:
Shaw-Julien-Duehr
Fagemo-JAD-Chibrikov
Wagner-Yager-Di Giuseppe
Vitelli-Yoder-Barlow
Sautner-Anhorn
Phillips-Larochelle
Clague-Barteaux
DiVincentiis
Notable:
Moose started off the right way to open this game but allowed three goals in 2:23 as the 1st period wound down which put the Senators on top 3-0 after 20. Three goals for Belleville on three straight shots which is not good for business.
After no damage for either team in the middle frame, the Moose malaise continued to show that it is real as they got burnt just 25 seconds into the 3rd already down by three to make it 4-0 for the Senators.
From base to worse as the AHL’s leading scorer Arthur Kaliyev picked up the hat trick to make it 5-0 for the Sens over the Moose.
With 3:16 left in the 3rd they dropped the puck to run down the clock and call the game with the Senators up 5-0 over the Moose in Belleville as a result of a medical emergency.
Manitoba lose their fourth straight game as they fall 5-0 to Sens. The Moose have squandered an opportunity to get within two points of Stars in 3rd. It looked like they’d get some held on the out-of-town scoreboard as the Admirals were losing 2-0 in 2nd but they came back to win and are now just one back of the Moose.
