Manitoba Moose four-game points streak comes to an end in Abbotsford as Canucks win 4-1

Recap of the game.

The Moose had a slow start last night in Abbotsford but netminder Thomas Milic continued his stellar play from the 1-0 win to end the homestand to backstop his team to a second straight shutout win as they eventually got rolling and took it 4-0 over the Canucks.

Lineup news:

Still no David Gustafsson who has missed six straight games. The coaching staff swapped out Fabian Wagner for Tyson Empey as those two continue to alternate games. And they went back to Thomas Milic after his shutout last night.

Moose lineup:

Shaw-Zhilkin-Di Giuseppe
Fagemo-Ford-Duehr
JAD-Yager-Chibrikov
Barlow-Julien-Empey

Sautner-Bauer
Phillips-Anhorn
Clague-Barteaux

Milic

Notable:

Surprised this didn’t get called back for goalie interference. But that’s how the shutout streak for Thomas Milic came to an end in the 1st period of tonight’s game. The streak lasted 134 minutes or two hours and 14 minutes. Tough way for it to end and more importantly it gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead.

Moose got into some 1st period penalty trouble which isn’t ideal when you have one of the best PKs (especially on the road) in the AHL. But they gave up a rare road goal on the PP which made it 2-0 for the Canucks on this one.

Manitoba got one back in the middle frame as captain Mason Shaw scored his 15th of the season. That ties him for the team lead for goals. Nice screen in front by Walker Duehr and it was a power play goal.

After a clean hit, Tyson Empey was asked to answer the bell a few minutes later and he rang the bell (a few times) on his opponent.

The Moose looked like they would get another PP goal as Samuel Fagemo had this excellent chance to tie the game but was thwarted by a great stop by Ty Young.

As the visitors attempted to equalize things in the final frame they got a bit loose which resulted in the home team putting this one away with their third goal of the contest. They’d add a long-range empty netter to really put the exclamation point on this one.

Manitoba maintains a two point lead over Texas for 3rd in the Central but they did give up one of their games in hand they held over the Stars. Now the Moose are down to one game in hand over their Central Division rival.

Multi-point game:

None
