Trade Deadline Recap: It was an incredibly busy day even though it wasn’t an incredibly busy day when it came to trades. In fact Winnipeg made just the one, again with Buffalo, sending them Tanner Pearson for a 2026 7th which took place at the end of the deadline. What made it busy was our first chat with goalie Connor Hellebuyck who spent about 12 minutes reflecting on all things Olympic hockey although he also touched on the deadline. We then heard from Jets head coach Scott Arniel who spoke about the trade on Thursday, impact on his club and more. Last up was GM Kevin Cheveldayoff who spoke for almost 30 minutes (which we’ve included topics/timestamps).
Note: The Jets held an optional yesterday where we saw Josh Morrissey skate in a regular jersey for the first time and he is expected to return for his first game in almost a month. We will also be getting our first looks at newest Jets Isak Rosén and Jacob Bryson who were expected to arrive last night. Morning skate for Winnipeg gets underway at 9:30 AM CST so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.
Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Vancouver, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 8:40 PM CST.
Note III: The Moose kicked off this short, two-game homestand against the Marlies with a 3-2 victory as they opened the scoring courtesy of Isaak Phillips, who was playing his second straight game in as many days. Prospect Brayden Yager got the game tied up with a rare power play goal and then Ashton Sautner shot one through traffic in the 3rd which proved to be the game-winning goal as Manitoba picked up their 25th win of the season moving into sole possession of 3rd in the Central. They are scheduled to practice today.
Note IV: In the prospect feature we take a look at the OHL and WHL. Two primary assists for Kevin He (2024 4th) who was named 1st Star of the Game in Flint’s win while Owen Martin (2025 3rd) found the back of the net scoring the only goal of the game for Spokane.
Note V: The Jets are on a bit of a roll securing points in five straight games (3-0-2) including an impressive 4-1 win over the Lighting on the eve of the NHL Trade Deadline. When we ‘go live’ this morning on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show we will analyze all the moves made by the local NHL club, discuss the impact it will have on the NHL/AHL clubs of this province and more. We will also be joined by Moose defenceman Tyrel Bauer. Check it out here.
