After big win over top team in AHL to start road trip, Moose suffer big letdown in 6-2 loss to Admirals

Recap of the game.

The Moose began this road trip up against the number 1 team in the AHL and despite being incredibly shorthanded were able to pick up an impressive win over the Griffins in Grand Rapids. They were looking to keep that momentum going against an Admirals team in Milwaukee that sat behind them in the Central Division standings.

Lineup news:

No changes to the players but they did shuffle the third and fourth lines around a bit. Still no David Gustafsson or Colby Barlow who are both still dealing with injury.

Moose lineup:

Shaw – Ford- Di Giuseppe
JAD – Zhilkin – Fagemo
Empey – Lambert – Chibrikov
Julien – Yager – Wagner

Sautner – Phillips
Anhorn – Barteaux
Zloty – Moulton

Milic

Notable:

The Admirals took it to the Moose early in the 1st holding a 6-0 shot edge and taking advantage of this costly turnover by Jets prospect Brayden Yager in the neutral zone which the home team made the most of as O’Hara beats goalie prospect Thomas Milic from a ways away.

The visitors made the rest of the opening period more respectable and then continued that to start the 2nd. They began the middle frame with a 5-0 shot edge which got to 8-1 in favour of them just over seven minutes into the period despite having had to kill a penalty (although they did have a power play).

Despite carrying most of the play in this frame the Moose cannot clear the puck and found themselves down 2-0 to the Admirals.

However, the Moose had a good response shift who got within one after an Admirals goal. Jets prospect Brayden Yager won the faceoff and then took this puck in stride before burying it on a 2 on 1. It’s his 7th goal of the season.

But then the Admirals regained their two goal lead striking on the power play. Although it didn’t last long as Tyson Empey picked a good time to score his first goal of the season striking back 35 seconds after Manitoba had gone down by two. Four goals by the Moose and Admirals (two each) in under 4 minutes.

Gordie Howe hat trick for Empey as he added this tilt to this goal and assist in the game.

Two more goals against (here & here) meant the Moose had given up six goals in the game (including a power play and shorthanded goals) to lose 6-2 to the Admirals. Milwaukee are now four points back of Manitoba although the visitors have two games in hand.
