Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | Feb 19, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets hit the ice yesterday for a second straight day of practice during their mini training camp while the Olympic break continues. Lots of talk about what was doing over in Italy with the players and coaching staff once skate concluded. They will skate for a third straight day today so check back for the Practice Report.

Note II: Overseas two of the four Jets players playing for their respective countries were in action on Wednesday. Josh Morrissey was a scratch as he works his way back from injury and he was forced to watch the thrilling OT winner for Canada against Czechia. Nino Niederreiter scored his first goal of the tournament for the Swiss but his team ultimately fell to the Finns in OT. Last up was Connor Hellebuyck (no Kyle Connor who was a healthy scratch) who led his club to victory over Sweden which also ended in extra time.

Note III: The Moose took yesterday off after a few days of practice and will be back on the ice for a skate today as they ramp up ahead of their weekend tilt with the Wild here in Winnipeg.

Global News: Jets don’t plan to ease back into post-Olympic schedule. There is no time to waste as the Jets playoff lives are on life support.

Jets at Olympics news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets teammates scratch heads over scratched Olympian Kyle Connor. No surprise they’ve got 81’s back.

Winnipeg Sun: ‘This is wild’: How the Winnipeg Jets watched Canada’s dramatic Olympic victory. It was quite a unique atmosphere with players and media watching the game in the dressing room.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets’ netminder Connor Hellebuyck backstops U.S. to overtime win over Swedes. (Paywall). Mike has all the local coverage from Italy.

Winnipeg Free Press: Banter ensues as Jets watch Oly quarterfinals after practice. (Paywall). Not sure we’ve ever spent that much time in the Jets dressing room.

The Athletic: Can an Olympic gold medal change Connor Hellebuyck’s big-game reputation? (Paywall). The one-game elimination is so different than a series so I’m not sure it’s fair to make the comparison.
