Game 52: Winnipeg Jets vs New Jersey Devils pre-game report

A look at the projected lineups and pre-game interviews.

The Jets made one roster move on Monday recalling defenceman Isaak Phillips from the Moose which gives them seven defencemen. We did learn that Neal Pionk, Colin Miller and Haydn Fleury are not expected back before the holiday break.

They didn’t recall any forwards which leaves them with one extra which is a spot currently occupied by Gustav Nyquist based on practice yesterday.

The last game of the homestand against the Red Wings could have been a jumping off point to propel them on towards a difficult stretch before the Olympic break. Instead they gave up four goals in the 3rd period and had their coach spitting fire in his very brief post-game appearance.

They begin four games on the road starting with the Devils in New Jersey. They are another hockey club which had lofty expectations this season which have fallen well short. They, like Winnipeg, sit well back of the final wild card spot which makes any points a premium.

From a special teams perspective the Devils have the 11th best PP and the 19th PK overall. Meanwhile the Jets rank 18th when it comes to power play and 15th on the penalty kill.

Skate news:

We knew it was an optional and as per radio colour broadcaster Mitchell Clinton about half the team skated including Neal Pionk and based on the video the Jets tweeted out he looked like he was moving just fine.

Jets projected lines & D pairs:

Connor-Scheifele-Iafallo
Perfetti-Toews-Vilardi
Niederreiter-Lowry-Namestnikov
Koepke-Barron-Pearson

Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Salomonsson
Stanley-Schenn

Hellebuyck/Comrie

Devils projected lines & D pairs:

Meier-Hughes-Bratt
Palat-Hischier-Mercer
Dadonov-Cotter-Brown
Gritsyuk-Glass-Hämennaho

Siegenthaler-Pesce
Dillon-Hamilton
Nemec-Kovacevic

Coach media availability:

Odds:

Playing at home gives New Jersey a slight edge, even if recent results suggest little separates these sides. Winnipeg has shown signs of life despite a discouraging loss in its last outing, while the Devils have struggled to find consistency of their own. With both teams underperforming and well off the playoff pace, this feels like a matchup where familiarity with the building and a sharper start could quietly tilt the balance. For the latest Winnipeg Jets hockey odds, visit NHL betting site Betway.
