Moose comeback falls short in OT as Wolves win 4–3

Manitoba came back and won in a shootout yesterday in Rockford and then went an hour or so east to Rosemont where they took another Central Division rival this afternoon.

The only change is Domenic DiVincentiis gets the net from Thomas Milic. Otherwise same lines and D pairs.

Bit of an unusual jersey/helmet combo for the Moose as they wore their white jerseys with their dark helmets as the Wolves were in a specialty jersey as part of their Hockey Fights Cancer game.

Samuel Fagemo opened the scoring which (temporarily) tied for team lead in goals as he got his 10th of the season which put the Moose up 1-0 early in the 2nd. Like that he gets his own rebound and rips that shot into the net.

Shortly thereafter the Wolves tied it up on this play and I can understand why Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis wanted it called off for goalie interference. It was reviewed but called a good goal which I can see why after watching replay as Phillips tripped up the Chicago player who fell into the Manitoba netminder.

Just 19 seconds later the Wolves took a 2-1 lead as Justin Robidas scored his second of the game off this quick strike play.

Don’t often see a defenceman tipping home another defenceman’s shot but that’s just what happens on this play. Ville Heinola, who is red-hot right now, tips the Kale Clague shot home to tie the game for the Moose. Heinola has 1G 11A in the last 12 games.

Bit of an unusual one to end the middle frame as the Wolves take a 3-2 lead with under two minutes remaining.

Walker Duehr continues to be so clutch for the Moose as he tied the game in the 3rd period with this wraparound. Uses his speed and gets his team leading 11th goal of the season. Second straight game he tied things up in the final frame.

Moose would head to their second straight game on back-to-back days of extra time after they tied the Wolves in the 3rd. Manitoba had 1:47 of power play time to start the OT. They didn’t do anything with the opportunity.

The home team struck 2:07 into extra time with a bit of a controversial goal although to me it appeared to be a good goal. There was a long (really long) video review but in the end the call on the ice stood. Good goal for the Wolves as the Moose comeback falls short in OT.

Manitoba earns a point but are three back of Chicago for second in the Central. They’ve gone 1-1-1 so far on this six-game road trip.
