Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets looked like they were finally set to end their long winless skid on Thursday night as they had a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes over the Oilers. But never count out a team with Connor McDavid on it as he led his club’s comeback which saw them defeat Winnipeg by a final score of 4-3. The home team has now lost 11 straight games (0-7-4). No rest however as they welcome the Kings to town. No morning skate for Winnipeg as they played last night but stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Los Angeles, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 9:40 PM CST.

Note III: A good 1st period (goals by Colby Barlow & Mason Shaw) followed by a poor 2nd and 3rd. Guess the farm club was trying to be a little to close to the parent organization as the Moose saw a 2-1 lead get erased as they gave up six straight before scoring one (Brad Lambert) as time wound down to lose 7-3. Tyrel Bauer had a hell of a tilt in the opening period. Today is a travel day for the team.

Note IV: Not related to the game but we had our IC Intern Zach Nolan write a recap on the performance of Jets prospects Alfons Freij and Sascha Boumedienne after they helped lead Sweden to World Junior gold. We learned that Freij has quite the personality which you could see here and here.

Note V: There was also some news about another Winnipeg prospect as Jacob Julien is heading to Norfolk to play in the ECHL as he is finally ready to being his pro playing career after having the last few months derailed by injury.

Note VI: Today is the last day of the OHL Trade Deadline and the expectation is Jets prospect Kieron Walton (2024 6th) will be on the move before the 12 noon EST deadline hits. There was a rumour last night he was heading to Peterborough.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Oilers send the Jets tumbling to an 11th consecutive loss. It has almost been a month since the Jets defeated the Capitals. That is hard to fathom.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets give up early lead in 4-3 loss to Oilers. (Paywall). Insight into the game from Mike’s spot in the pressbox.

Global News: Jets reach new low, falling 4-3 to Edmonton for franchise-record 11th straight loss. Christian and Russ combine on this game recap.

NHL.com: McDavid runs point streak to 17, Oilers rally to hand Jets 11th loss in row. Darrin gives you a view from both rooms.

The Athletic: New top targets as activity picks up and sellers emerge. (Paywall). Chris has three Jets on this list including Luke Schenn (8th), Logan Stanley (16) and Brad Lambert (33). Not sure in what universe Logan Stanley is commanding 25 million with his next contract and I also find it a bit odd that he’s got Schenn so high.
