Bringing you up to speed from day 13 of Winnipeg Jets training camp

All the latest from hockey for all centre.

After an incredibly busy Monday we weren’t sure what today would bring us in Jetsland. Skate began at 10 AM and folks were eager to see if Connor Hellebuyck, who left skate early yesterday would be on the ice with his game group teammates.

About 30 minutes before skate began we saw backup Eric Comrie on with goalie coach Wade Flaherty. About 10 minutes later Connor Hellebuyck emerged from the room and began warming up on the ice.

Another sign that all was well with 37 was the face that Domenic DiVincentiis wasn’t dressed. The Jets goalie prospect had been scheduled to be part of this skate presumably if Hellebuyck wasn’t up to participating.

Projected lines and D pairs for tonight vs Wild:

Iafallo-Namestnikov-Vilardi
Perfetti-Toews-Niederreiter
Koepke – Lambert – Chibrikov
Gustafsson- JAD – Ford

Fleury – DeMelo
Heinola – Miller
Stanley – Pionk

Hellebuyck
Comrie

Second group:

Nothing super notable other than Jets prospect Kieron Walton, who is recovering from a concussion, was skating with them as opposed to yesterday when he was IR skating with Adam Lowry.

Well after skate had ended top centre for Winnipeg Mark Scheifele was working with prospects Colby Barlow and Brayden Yager. While the two will likely find themsleves on the Moose sooner rather than later, what a great learning opportunity they’ve had the last few weeks.

Waiver/Roster activity:

When the clock struck 1 PM CDT we learned via Puck Pedia that both Mason Shaw and Phil Di Giuseppe had cleared waivers and could be assigned to the Moose. There was some uncertainty if the Jets would wait until after tonight’s game/their day off tomorrow before they made any more roster moves but that was not the case as they made an additional five moves.

They placed Tyrel Bauer and Isaak Phillips on waivers. Additionally they also released Ashton Sautner and Dawson Barteaux from their PTOs. Both players will head to the Moose as they are already on AHL deals.

Lastly, the aforementioned Kieron Walton is obviously cleared as they have sent him back to Sudbury to play for the Wolves of the OHL.

Up next:

The Jets face the Wild tonight in St. Paul with a 7 PM puck drop. Reminder the game is available on the Jets website but it is not on TSN.

Health update:

Jets centre Jonathan Toews left the game in the 2nd period and did not return. When asked about it post-game head coach Scott Arniel said he tweaked something and that the Winnipegger would be evaluated when they got home.
