Note: The Jets picked up their first win of the pre-season on Saturday night defeating the Flames 4-2. Things got started with Walker Duehr scoring the opening goal of the game against his former team off a nice net drive which ended with a lucky bounce. That was followed by a pair of prospects connecting to make it 2-0 when Brayden Yager found Nikita Chibrikov who buried it. Unexpectedly the celebrity look-a-like featured two actual celebrities with Joe Pantoliano and David Harbour (who was crushing beers). Back to the game it was Jaret Anderson-Dolan feeding a perfect pass over to Parker Ford to help the Jets regain a two goal lead. It wasn’t all sunshine in the middle frame as the Jets lost Dylan Samberg to an injury and post-game head coach Scott Arniel called it a “freak accident” and that Samberg was being evaluated. The home team would add one more goal which some folks thought might have been Jonathan Toews first but it was credited to Neal Pionk with 19 providing the screen.
Note II: The team is off today so we may have to wait for any updates on Samberg but they are expected to make their second round of cuts as they reduce the size of their training camp roster which currently sits at 49 players.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday podcast. Just a shade under two weeks into Jets training camp and things are starting to get a bit more clear. They played in Edmonton on Friday night and then were home to Calgary last night which gave us plenty to discuss on the show. We covered Colby Barlow, which prospect might get first recall, the 2nd line, if they are better prepared because of the Blues series, if backend depth chart has changed at all in training camp and depth. We were joined by Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet and Craig Button of TSN.
