Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: Just over a week before the Jets and Dylan Samberg head to arbitration although it isn’t expected to get to that point on July 30th. Stay tuned to find out if today is the day he inks a new long-term deal in Winnipeg.

Note II: Speaking of guys who have signed long-term in Winnipeg we heard from Gabriel Vilardi on Monday as he discussed his new six-year deal to stay in Manitoba and why it made sense to him to sign long-term. It runs just under 14 minutes which we’ve timestamped. You can watch or listen to it here.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets forward Gabe Vilardi ‘super excited’ about the signing of Jonathan Toews. Hard not to get excited about a three-time Stanley Cup champ bringing his wealth of experience (on and off the ice) to their room.

Winnipeg Sun: Gabe Vilardi talks about his decision to remain with the Jets. Playing on one of the top lines in the NHL for years to come is probably some pretty good incentive.

Winnipeg Free Press: Vilardi locked in long-term after career-best season with Jets. (Paywall). The city went from “Winnipeg is good” to “I love Winnipeg” as the Laine trade tree continues to bear fruit.

Global News: Gabriel Vilardi glad to have avoided arbitration, calls extension ‘inevitable’. Neither side would have wanted to end up with arbitration.

Jets audio:

680 CJOB: Jets at NoonFresh off signing a two-year deal with Winnipeg on Friday, Parker Ford joined Jim Toth and Tyson Rewucki on 680 CJOB to talk about his new deal, his decision to stay in Winnipeg, the opportunity to win and more.

Jets prospect news:

The Athletic: NHL prospects I was wrong about, 2025 edition: Lian Bichsel, Brad Lambert and more. (Paywall). He had Brad at 8th overall back in 2022 and he re-visits his positioning with the benefit of hindsight.
