Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: It took longer than expected but the end result was what most folks expected: Nikolaj Ehlers ends up as a member of the Hurricanes signing a six-year deal with Carolina.

Note II: The Jets added more organizational depth later on Thursday afternoon when the team announced the signing of Mason Shaw to a one-year deal. There was also an AHL deal announced as the Moose added another goalie to the mix signing Alex Worthington to a two-year AHL contract.

Note III: We now know why we haven’t seen Jets prospect Garrett Brown skating at Development Camp. It’s because he had shoulder surgery but the expectations is he should be good for start of the season.

Note IV: Yesterday we spoke with Kieron Walton | Sascha Boumedienne | Zach Nehring. Today is the final day of Development Camp with the prospects hitting the ice for a skate at 9:30 AM CDT out at the hockey for all centre. We will likely have our final media availability

Note V: We will also hear from Jonathan Toews today for the very first time this afternoon. He is speaking at 1 PM CDT and we will have that covered.

Winnipeg Free Press: Ehlers ends suspense, signs six-year deal with Carolina. (Paywall). Not sure how much suspense was left given I think almost everyone believed he would end up in Carolina.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hockey a lifelong passion for Jets first-round draft pick, Boumedienne. (Paywall). If this kid isn’t already a fan favourite I don’t think it is going to take very long. He’s got a really infectious laugh and more importantly he’s got skills that are evident when you watch him on the ice.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Hurricanes sign Nikolaj Ehlers to 6-year contract with $8.5 million cap hit. (Paywall). Jesse and Murat react to the big news story from Thursday.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Projecting Jets’ opening-night roster with Gustav Nyquist, without Nikolaj Ehlers. (Paywall). Murat wrote this before Ehlers’ decision but it proved accurate. How do you like the way the lineup looks as he constructs it?
