The Moose were just on the ice at hockey for all centre for an optional practice. One of those guys skating was 2021 3rd rounder Dmitry Kuzmin. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but head coach Mark Morrison did take a call during the skate.
Shortly after practice ended Darren Dreger of TSN reported:
“The Jets and Blackhawks finalizing a trade. Dmitry Kuzmin from Winnipeg to Chicago for Isaak Phillips.”
Kuzmin was just on the ice with his teammates. He’s been developing nicely which included his best couple of games before the team left on their road trip.
This was from my chat (two weeks back) with Moose assistant coach Eric Dubois (in charge of D) about now former Jets prospect Dmitry Kuzmin who was coming off his best weekend of the season.

He’s now a Hawks prospect after the trade today. https://t.co/oQdb3NMERU pic.twitter.com/Qeqyv5Ehcn

Isaak Phillips is a 6’3 defender left shot who has 56 NHL games under his belt with the Hawks.
Of course one of the most endearing moments fans will recall with Kuzmin came after he got drafted and he told his grandmother he had been selected by Winnipeg and her response was “What is Winnipeg”?
This move bolsters the Jets depth on the left side if they need a recall because they didn’t have that option with the Moose. And for the Hawks the scuttlebutt is that Kuzmin is close with their 2nd overall pick from the 2024 draft and countryman Artyom Levshunov.
