Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel provides update on Vlad Namestnikov who won’t play vs Canucks

After blocking a shot against the Kings, missing game vs Avs we get an update on number 7.

Jets second line centre Vlad Namestnikov has been having a productive season to date for Winnipeg with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 43 games. He was on pace to score 17 goals this season which would be the most he scored since 2021-22 when he got 16 for the Wings/Stars.

On Friday night with the Jets hosting the Kings he went down to block a shot which hit him in the leg and he was in some pain afterwards on the bench and then went down the tunnel.

A testament to his pain tolerance he returned to the bench and didn’t miss a shift.

However the next night with Winnipeg hosting Colorado he wasn’t on the ice. After the game head coach Scott Arniel was asked for an update.

“He got hit with that shot the other night so we’ll just see how he is the next day.”

Of course the next day was Sunday and the team was off.

Today they hit the ice for practice and once again number 7 wasn’t on the ice with his teammates so following the practice we heard from the Jets bench boss in the Matt Frost Media Centre looking for an update. He indicated:

“Not much. He tried this morning. Didn’t go so well so he won’t be a player tomorrow.”

Asked if he remains day-to-day he replied:

“Yeah. He’s going to keep trying and see how it feels everyday.”

So there you go.
