Note: The Jets hit the ice for a practice on Friday as they got ready for today’s battle with the Wild. Not all the Jets as David Gustafsson is dealing with an illness and Logan Stanley is out for the next few games after blocking a shot in Anaheim. They’ll face a Minnesota team that lost 2-1 to Utah yesterday so we shall see if they can take advantage of a team playing in a back-to-back. Winnipeg will have an optional morning skate at 9:30 AM CST. Stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.
Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Minnesota, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 8:40 PM CST.
Note III: The Moose got back on track last night in Winnipeg as recently loaned Dylan Coghlan scored his first in antlers to open the scoring. Kaapo Kahkonen made 30 saves on 31 shots including 17 in the 3rd to get the game to OT. Manitoba had a number of chances to win it in extra time including this flurry late but the game would need a shootout. Also recently loaned back Nikita Chibrikov pulled off this silky-smooth move to open the scoring in the SO and then Jaret Anderson-Dolan ended the slide with this goal to seal the win for the Moose as the home team won 2-1 in the shootout. Manitoba is set to practice today for their re-match on Sunday afternoon.
Note IV: Just two Jets prospects found the scoresheet on Friday but both were impressive. Jets 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow finished with 2G 1A while making some friends in an Oshawa win while 2024 6th rounder Kieron Walton pulled off a Mario-esque move for Sudbury finishing with 1G 1A. He’s sitting tied for third in the OHL points race.
Note V: We’ve got two hours of Jets talk coming your way on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show starting at 9 AM CST as we look back at the week that was in Jetsland while also getting you set up ahead of tonight’s game between Winnipeg and Minnesota.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: ‘Got to win this division’: Date with Wild has Winnipeg Jets’ attention. How many people would have picked either of these clubs to be in the position they are in on December 21st? Nobody.
Winnipeg Sun: ‘Not how we’re going to win the Stanley Cup’: Jets’ Ehlers wants more. One thing about the Dynamic Dane is he is always candid. And he isn’t wrong.
Winnipeg Free Press: Sitting atop the NHL standings, Jets know slow starts won’t cut it against motivated opponents. (Paywall). Teams bring their ‘A’ game against Winnipeg and this team cannot afford to not bring a similar mentality regardless of opponent.
Global News: Jets face critical pair of games before holiday break. No question these are two big games coming up against the Wild and Leafs.
