Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets incredible season continued yesterday afternoon in a measuring stick game against the Stars which saw Winnipeg control almost every aspect of the game on their way to a 4-1 win which gives them the record for first team to get 14 wins in their first 15 games. Of course the best part of the game had nothing to do with the win. It was fans in Winnipeg creating some instant classic chants like raining down “U.S backup” down on Jake Oettinger after the 4-0 goal (on 15 shots). When Oettinger was pulled for Casey DeSmith fans then started chanting “We want Oettinger” after the backup made a number of quality saves. The team is off today.

Note II: The Moose had a forgettable start to their road trip last night in Texas as they tried to fight their way back into the game but the penalty kill is killing them as the Stars scored twice with the man advantage on way to 5-2 win over Manitoba. There will be a re-match tonight at 5 PM CST.

Note III: Checking out how Jets prospects did last night. In the OHL – Kieron Walton (2024 6th) had a goal for Sudbury while his best friend Kevin He (2024 4th) picked up his second hat trick of the season for Niagara as he fights to get back into contention for the points lead. In the WHL – Brayden Yager (2023 1st) had an assist for Moose Jaw while Markus Loponen (2024 5th) also had an assist for Victoria.

Note IV: The Bombers are heading to their fifth straight Grey Cup as they defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders by a final score of 38-22 last night on a balmy night in Winnipeg.

Note V: The entire sports community is grieving the loss of Winnipeg Sun sports editor Ted Wyman who lost his battle with cancer on Saturday. Ted was a great guy who had tremendous insight into the sports world in Manitoba and we always loved having him on our show. He was just 58 years old. Both the Jets and Bombers paid him tribute on Saturday.
