Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets held another day of practice which is best summed up as ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” since they appear not ready to make any changes after starting the season 4-0-0. Of course with today’s contest against the Penguins being a matinee there won’t be a morning skate so any updates (which will be featured in the pre-game report) will come around 1:30 PM CDT when they take to the ice for warm up. Puck drop is at 2 PM CDT.

Note II: This isn’t an ordinary day as the Jets will have long-time centre Bryan Little sign a one-day contract so he can retire as a member of the NHL club of Winnipeg. The team and Little will have a media availability at 12:45 PM CDT which we will bring to you on our YouTube channel.

Note III:  This afternoon, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Pittsburgh, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 4:40 PM CDT.

Note IV: A week after the Moose broke out the brooms to sweep their season opening set with the Wild in Iowa they find themselves being swept back to Manitoba after they lost both games to the Griffins in Michigan including last night’s 2-1 loss. They are off today. They will return home to prepare for their home opener which gets underway next Saturday.

Note V: Pair of Jets prospects in the WHL had four point nights as Brayden Yager (2023 1st) had 2G 2A for his Moose Jaw Warriors while Connor Levis (2023 7th) contributed 3G 1A for his hometown Vancouver Giants. While it didn’t count, as it was an exhibition game, also getting on the scoresheet with a nice wrister was 2023 3rd rounder Zach Nehring as his Western Michigan Broncos demolished York University.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Sidney Crosby still leaving long-time NHLers starstruck. He works hard, is humble and produces year after year.

Winnipeg Sun: Not goodbye, but a see you later for long-time Jets centre Bryan Little Long overdue opportunity for fans to thank the centre who spent many years in southern Manitoba.

Winnipeg Free Press: Little tribute, Crosby visit make for special Sunday. (Paywall). Anytime number 87 takes to the ice it’s a special opportunity to watch a guy who is still a top athlete in the sport.
