Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: The Jets have plenty to be thankful for on this Canadian Thanksgiving as the team has started the season 3-0 for the first time in 2.0 era history after yesterday’s 2-1 overtime win over Central Division rival Minnesota. While it’s admittedly early they are tied for 1st spot in both power play % and penalty kill % which is pretty good given how poor both special teams were last season. Today the team is off the ice as they rest up for three straight days of practice before they resume games again starting with the Sharks on Friday.

Note II: It wasn’t just the NHL club of Winnipeg making history on Sunday as the AHL club of Manitoba was also doing something they haven’t done since returning to the city ten years ago. They swept the opening two-game series of the AHL season. They can thank the sensational pro debut for Jets goalie prospect Domenic Divincentiis in backstopping them to a 3-2 win. He made an impressive 37 saves on 39 shots in front of his dad who was fortunate to make it to Des Moines in time to see his son make his professional debut. They are also off today and will be back in action tomorrow as they practice this week in Winnipeg for their next series which starts this Friday in Grand Rapids.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets strike gold again in overtime, down Wild 2-1. Scott gives you the rundown from last night’s victory. 

Winnipeg Free Press: Connor works OT magic to propel Jets past Wild. (Paywall). No surprise that 55 and 81 are one and two when it comes to most OT goals for the franchise. 

Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele shows no signs of slowing down while hitting milestone 800th game with Jets. (Paywall). As the Jets captain points out isn’t the longevity but the fact he’s been able to do it with one organization. And in a few years time it will be 55 playing in game 1000. 

Sportsnet:  Mark Scheifele adds to storybook Jets career in Game 800. Jacob wrote about the milestone, as well as Kyle Connor and the problematic Namestnikov line.

Sportsnet: Connor scores in overtime as Jets outlast Wild for third straight win. It’s pretty impressive that he is the clear GWG leader for this organization, especially when you consider how many fewer games he’s played than some of his teammates. 

Minneapolis Star-Tribune: Wild exit Winnipeg with a point after overtime loss to the Jets. (Paywall). Check out this recap from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent. 

Pioneer Press: Short-handed Wild earn another point in 2-1 OT loss at Winnipeg. (Paywall). Definitely worth noting that Minnesota was missing some key pieces from their lineup last night.
