Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: It was a very busy day in Jetsland on Monday which began with the team sending Brad Lambert and Nikita Chibrikov down to the Moose. When practice began there was no sign of two-time Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck who we would later learn was missing due to a family matter. We also found out that Jaret Anderson-Dolan had passed through waivers and could be assigned to Manitoba. The team designated Ville Heinola as injured, non-roster and placed Logan Stanley on injured reserve to start the year which got them down to 24. And then because of the situation with Hellebuyck the team assigned Elias Salomonsson to the Moose which made their roster compliant.

Note II: The Jets will be practicing today at 11 AM CT which we will have covered as they get set to face the Oilers tomorrow night in Edmonton to kick off the 2024-25 season. Be sure you’re subscribed to our YouTube channel to get all the interviews.

Note III: The Moose were off on Monday but they did hit the ice as it was production day where yours truly had a behind the scenes view. I’ll have more on what goes on at production day so stay tuned for that. The AHL club of Manitoba is scheduled to hit the ice for a morning skate at hockey for all centre with the game group on the ice at 10 AM CDT and the non-game group at 11 AM CDT. They will face off against the Bisons later this evening at 6 PM CDT. You can watch the game at the hockey for all centre.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets eager to prove they are more than a regular-season wonder. (Paywall). Last year at this time most folks weren’t really giving this Jets team much respect as Rodney Dangerfield would sorta have said. That team went out and put up 110 points. Despite that most pundits are prognosticating a step back. However there is still plenty of belief from those on the Jets team. Ken and Mike give you a preview.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets forced to shuffle goaltender deck. (Paywall). We were anticipating one of Eric Comrie or Kappo Kahkonento be placed on waivers but given the situation with Connor Hellebuyck the team was forced to retain an extra goalie although it is expected to be rectificed soon, perhaps as soon as today.

Global News: Jets ‘walk it back’ so they can move forward. Can the team that produced a 110 point season last year return given the largely similar makeup of this hockey club in Winnipeg? We shall see.

Jets video:

TSN: Jets season preview. The Jets are coming off a 110-point regular season and a Vezina-winning effort from Connor Hellebuyck but the bitter taste of a resounding, early playoff exit overshadowed any success the team had in 2023-24. The TSN Hockey panel dissects the tone in Winnipeg as a new season awaits.
