Once Simon Lundmark signed with Winnipeg at the end of July it left the Jets with just one restricted free agent left in Cole Perfetti. The 2020 1st rounder had an up and down 2023-24 campaign but he still produced 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points in 71 games.
TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger shed some light on the situation last Friday when he indicated that Perfetti was in Winnipeg training with his teammates despite not having a contract and that he was planning on being in Vegas for the NHL Media Tour.
Fast forward to today when he was speaking with media and the subject of his contract talks with Winnipeg came up.
As per John Matisz of theScore this is what number 91 had to say:
“Our side (agency) is working on a deal with them. We’re obviously positive something’s going to get done. Our groups are working hard together to figure something out. At this point, I want to be there.”
“I figured they wouldn’t ask me to come if (a contract wasn’t close),” he said with a smile. “At the same time, you never know.”
Seems more than likely this is announced sooner rather than later. Really the only questions seems to be the only question it ever was which is whether Perfetti and the Jets agree to a short-term bridge deal or a long-term one.
Stay tuned.
