Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets were off on Wednesday after a big 6-3 win over the Wild on Tuesday night which was their third game in four nights. Today they will practice in Winnipeg before they head out to Chicago where they will play the Hawks on Friday night on a quick one-game road trip. Stay tuned for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose held a very optional practice on Wednesday with just six guys taking to the ice although the more important insight came off the ice as bench boss Mark Morrison provided an update on Jets prospect Chaz Lucius who is recovering from his season ending ankle surgery last month.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Monahan appears to have unlocked Jets’ power-play potential. Six goals in the last three games is no fluke. We know the record with the extra man prior to acquiring Monahan from Montreal.

Winnipeg Free Press: Monahan’s impact with the Jets undeniable. (Paywall). While some were panicking after the team suffered two straight losses following his acquisition it is clear you cannot judge these types of moves immediately. As Cole Perfetti told us last week the benefit of having Monahan added to the group well before the Trade Deadline is they had time to get him up-to-speed and based on the last few games he appears to be a quick study.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Why the Winnipeg Jets’ forward deployment double standard threatens team’s foundation. (Paywall). Hard to hold some accountable and give others a free pass for exact same actions. Could foster resentment.

Global News: Jets’ second-line wingers need to find chemistry with new centre ASAP. The team has given themselves some runway given they’ve won four of their last five games and have a relatively easy schedule the next stretch.

TSN: What would be the most impactful add for the Winnipeg Jets? What would be the most impactful add for Winnipeg ahead of the trade deadline? TSN Hockey analyst Mike Johnson and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button discuss in this edition of One Big Question.
