Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets practiced for the second straight day on Tuesday and all remained the same as it was on Monday. Morning skate for the home team gets underway at 9:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6:30 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and San Jose we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose got loose last night in Calgary as they played their eighth game of this nine game road trip (which was broken up by the AHL All-Star break) when they lost to the Wranglers by a final score of 4-2. Despite outshooting the home team in the first Manitoba found themselves down 2-0 but they reversed things in the middle frame being outshot but tying the game. First Jets prospect Brad Lambert absolutely lets this rip to tie the game for his team leading 15th of the season followed by a power play tip courtesy of Jeffrey Viel which made it 2-2. The visitors had plenty of chances but a double-minor to prospect Nikita Chibrikov (who along with Lambert are both in Top 5 of AHL rookie scoring) gave the home team a chance to take the lead and that’s just what they did scoring their second power play goal of the game. Manitoba pulled Milic but a missed slash to the face of Brad Lambert allowed the Wranglers to take possession of a dump in and take it up the ice before depositing it into the back of the net to make it 4-2. Moose conclude their nine games on the road in a re-match with the Wranglers this evening. Puck drop is at 8 PM CST.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Vilardi needs legs, body to catch up with hands amid slump. One thing we’ve learned about number 13 is he doesn’t shy away from giving an honest assessment of himself although he may be his own harshest critic.

Winnipeg Free Press: Namestnikov ‘a true pro’. (Paywall). We constantly hear about selflessness and while all guys want more the reality is to win a Championship takes sacrifice which comes in a variety of ways. This is what Rick Bowness said ten days ago about his centre moving from the second to fourth line for the good of the team.

Winnipeg Free Press: Vilardi focused on finding his way back onto the scoresheet. (Paywall). He was pretty self deprecating when it came time to reflect on his game against the Penguins.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Why playing goal in the NHL has never been harder: Analytics, talent, chaos and equipment. (Paywall). Murat co-wrote this piece on goaltending with insight from both Jets netminders.
