Note: The Jets were off on Sunday following their first regulation loss in over a month as they got a chance to rest and relax following a busy stretch of games. Although it wasn’t a day completely absent news as the NHL confirmed Rick Bowness would be heading to his first All-Star game. This week they will have an opportunity to do something they haven’t done a lot of and that is practice as they have just one game (tomorrow) during the next five days. Today practice starts at 11 AM CST so be sure to check back for the Practice Report.
Note II: The Moose also were off on Sunday as they returned from a disappointing three game road trip which saw them lose all three which means they’ve lost seven straight as the season will be slowly slipping away if they cannot pull out of this slide. The good news for them is they play the next 11 games against teams in their division which will give them an opportunity to gain some ground if they can get things turned around which begins with a week of practice. There remain some question marks (Chaz Lucius, Wyatt Bongiovanni) with the added wrinkle of Brad Lambert who left the last game in Laval after a big hit in the 3rd period. They are scheduled to practice today at 10:30 AM CST at hockey for all centre.
Jets news:
Global News: Numbers hard to ignore as buzz continues around Winnipeg Jets. There is no doubt that this Jets club is generating some buzz.
Winnipeg Free Press: No Kupari, no deal. (Paywall). That’s an interesting nugget from Mike indicating the Jets insisted the Finnish forward be part of the trade this summer or there wouldn’t have been a deal between Winnipeg and Los Angeles. It was clear when we heard from Kevin Cheveldayoff and Rick Bowness during training camp that they felt there was untapped potential in the speedy forward and while it is likely quicker than they wanted him back from his conditioning assignment, it provides him with an opportunity.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets succumb to reality. Scott’s sobering second thoughts/reflections on the game on Saturday night.
The Athletic: Who won and lost the NHL 2023-24 offseason? Grading each team’s moves at the midpoint. (Paywall). No big shocker they’ve got the Jets as winners.
