Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets held a quick practice in Winnipeg on Monday morning before they took off for Tampa Bay where they will hold a second straight day of practice which is set to get underway at 10:30 AM CST. The most notable factoid was associate coach Scott Arniel saying there was a “good chance” injured forward Gabriel Vilardi “might” play on road trip. Check back for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose travelled to Rockford on Monday after they concluded a three games in three days set which saw them win twice and lose once. Today they are scheduled to practice at 1 PM CST.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Injured winger Gabriel Vilardi practices for first time with Jets. The plan last week was for him to join full skate in Tampa so he may be a day or two ahead of schedule which is perhaps why he’s an option to play this trip.

Winnipeg Free Press: Vilardi on the runway and preparing for takeoff. (Paywall). Funny how it becomes “what do the Jets do about the lines” which is obviously a good problem for them to have.

Winnipeg Free Press: Mason Appleton the picture of consistency. (Paywall). The 6th rounder from 2015 has overcome doubt throughout his career and he’s proving many folks wrong this season.

Global News: Winnipeg Jets’ start to the season a product of consistency. While they had a similar start last season the reality is that this was largely due to the Hellebuyckian effort of their netminder as opposed to the total team effort we have seen through almost all 17 games to date.

TSN: Where does Vilardi fit with return getting closerGabriel Vilardi took part in his first full practice with the Jets since sustaining a sprained right MCL just under 5 weeks ago. Scott Arniel says there’s a good chance he could return to the lineup near the end of the Jets upcoming road trip, but where does he fit in? John Lu has more.

Sportsnet: As we near the quarter mark of the season, who are the most intriguing Canadian teamsHockey Central host David Amber joins the Jeff Marek show to discuss the most enticing storylines for Canadian teams.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve Hockey: Moose reassign Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic to the Norfolk Admirals. It was a busy week for the 2023 5th rounder who got his first taste of AHL action this past week.
