On the Beat: Hedican announces retirement

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • Bret Hedican announced his retirement from the National Hockey League today. Hedican enjoyed a nice long career in the NHL and had some of the best wheels in the game.
  • Empty Netters (one of my favourite blogs out there) has a multitude of news and notes from each division in the National Hockey League and provides a sneak peek of Wilkes-Barre Scranton’s new third jersey. Has Nikolai Zherdev fled for the KHL?
  • The Vancouver Canucks released seven players from training camp this morning.
  • This was posted earlier on this morning by Capitals Insider Tarik El-Bashir but I thought I would pass this along anyways. Apparently there are several fake Capitals player Twitter accounts.
  • Ducks 2009 1st Round Draft Pick Peter Holland is making the most of his first NHL training camp.
  • 41-year-old Calgary Flames phenomenon Theoren Fleury should apparently make his pre-season debut on Thursday night against the New York Islanders.

Listen to The IllegalCurve.com Radio Show tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. CST on 92.9 KICK FM in Winnipeg (www.kick.fm) for a very special interview with the legendary host of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada Ron MacLean. Will Carroll, editor of Puck Prospectus will also make a guest appearance.
