The Jets were back on the ice for day 3 of camp but they reversed the groups with Team Selanne hitting the ice in the morning. Although that group was missing Nikolaj Ehlers (neck spasms) and had a few modifications with the lines looking as follows:
Niederreiter-Perfetti-Zhilkin
Iafallo-Lowry-Appleton
Toninato-Harkins-Jonsson-Fjallby
Malott-Lambert-Chibrikov
Heinola-Schmidt
Chisholm-DeMelo
Dillon-Bauer
Kniazev-Oligny
Brossoit
Milic
So Danny Zhilkin went in for Nikolaj Ehlers, on the backend Moose captain Jimmy Oligny replaced Simon Lundmark and Thomas Milic had the net replacing Oskari Salminen.
Back for another day of entertaining the players/fans was sign guy
Just like yesterday Cole Perfetti worked on faceoffs with Adam Lowry once formal skate was over. Looking to solidify that hold on the second line centre role.
Additionally skating on the other ice surface from this main group were Collin Delia, Oskari Salminen, Chaz Lucius, Daniel Torgersson, Henri Nikannen, Dean Stewart and Simon Kubicek. As well Wyatt Bongiovanni was skating in a yellow, non-contact uniform.
It was also a busy day for IC as Producer Tim spent part of his morning setting up the IC booth for tomorrow’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM. If you can join us live come say hello.
Following skate we heard from Dylan DeMelo and Declan Chisholm. Be forewarned the audio cable was dislodged while recording so the audio quality isn’t great.
The afternoon skate kicked off with Team Numminen looking like this:
Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi
Barron-Kupari-Namestnikov
Levis-Gustafsson-Viel
Ford-Julien-Reichel
Morrissey-Salomonsson
Samberg-Pionk
Stanley-Capobianco
Sautner-Kuzmin
Hellebuyck
DiVincentiis
What was immediately noticeable was the absence of newly signed Colby Barlow as the 2023 1st rounder was on the ice. We would later learn he was dealing with an illness (flu).
Additionally Parker Ford, Jacob Julien, and Connor Levis had joined this forward group. They swapped out Dean Stewart for Dmitry Kuzmin and Domenic DiVincentiis was in-between the pipes.
Following skate we heard from Jets bench boss Rick Bowness.
While he covered quite a bit of ground he did provide an update on Nikolaj Ehlers saying they’d most likely give him another day to rest on Saturday rather than push it and potentially cause it to become a problem.
He also discussed the battle drills his team ran, with pre-season games coming up do they ease up at all, is there such a thing as “too much contact” in battle drills, value of a Swiss Army knife type of player, measuring pucks to the slot and doing more with them, pairing Josh Morrissey/Elias Salomonsson and more.
Reminder tomorrow is Fan Fest and the Hockey For All Centre is expected to be packed. The team is also releasing their jersey tomorrow at 11:45 AM and we will have that covered.
