Former Winnipeg Jets forward Evgeny Svechnikov is heading to the KHL

He wasn’t in Winnipeg long but quickly became a fan favourite thanks to his mic’d up segments.

He wasn’t here for a long time but he was here for a good time.

At least that could be used by folks to describe the 2021-22 season when Russian forward Evgeny Svechnikov signed in Winnipeg as a bit of a reclamation project following his not being tendered a qualifying offer by the Red Wings. He went from being an RFA to a UFA that summer and he was ultimately signed by the Jets to a one-year deal. He would play 72 games in Winnipeg that season scoring seven goals while adding 12 assists.

His time in the ‘Peg was most memorable for what he did on the ice but not with a hockey stick. He really endeared himself to the fanbase in Winnipeg courtesy of his Mic’d Up appearances for JetsTV.

He would not be qualified by the Jets following that season and would sign a one-year deal to play in San Jose. In 59 games with the Sharks he had eight goals and six assists.

After not signing a new deal in North America for the 2023-24 season he will be heading back to Russia to play in the KHL with Ak Bars Kazan. It was reported by the team to be a two-year deal.
