Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: It was another day of Development Camp for the Jets on Friday as players hit the ice for some drills followed by a 3-on-3 scrimmage. Following the on-ice portion a number of guys spoke including 2020 5th rounder Anton Johannesson (watch here), recently acquired via trade Artemi Kniazev (watch here) as well as camp invitees Jordan Tourigny (watch here) and Winnipegger Evan Friesen (watch here).

Note II: The news is a few days old although it was only reported by his agency and not yet confirmed by the team but O2K Sports Management is reporting that CJ Suess, who was drafted by Winnipeg, will be returning to the fold on a two-year deal with the Moose.

Note III: Tune in for two hours of Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show starting at 9 AM. We will be joined by Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg and Michael Traikos of The Hockey News. Watch here.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets prospects have potential to be special. (Paywall). Mike wrote about the attention being garnered by a pair of 2nd round picks in Nikita Chibrikov and Elias Salomonsson

Winnipeg Free Press: Development camp invite gives undrafted D-man a foot in the door. (Paywall). Folks don’t have to look very far to see what undrafted players are capable of since the Winnipeg Jets club has a few guys including Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt who have carved out impressive NHL careers despite the fact that they weren’t drafted. Drafting is an inexact science which is why guys like Pavel Datsyuk go in the 6th round or a player like recent Conn Smythe winner and Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Marchessault go completely undrafted.

Winnipeg Sun: Better hockey, better English, on tap for Chibrikov at Jets development camp. The organization and the player made the right decision to bring  him to North America at the end of last season so he could have a few months over here to get acclimatized. We sometimes forget how foreign it can be for players and this will help with his adjustment. Scott also wrote about 2022 2nd rounder Elias Salomonsson.

NHL.com: Friesen, Tourigny, and Kniazev take different routes to Development Camp. It doesn’t matter if you’re there because you were drafted, an undrafted invitee or via trade as once you put on that uniform you have a chance to make an impression on the brass who are watching each skate like hawks.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets development camp takeaways: Signings, arbitration, friendships and a goodbye. (Paywall). Murat brought you up-to-speed around the team including the departure of the Jets QMJHL scout.

MJHL Hockey: Pair of MJHL coaches take part in Jets Development Camp. You often see faces who you do not necessarily connect to the organization at these camps. Two Manitobans in Justin Falk and Paul Dyck, who played pro for many years and are now coaching, share their experience at the Camp.
