Note: It was a busy first day on the ice at Jets Development Camp. It began with news that OHL Goalie of the Year Domenic DiVincentiis had been signed to a three-year ELC by Winnipeg (he spoke following skate). We saw 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius was in a yellow, non-contact jersey as he recovers from his shoulder surgery although he indicated he’s 2-3 weeks away from taking contact. He also spoke following skate as did 2022 first rounder Rutger McGroarty who had plenty to say about the big brains on the team, becoming Step Brothers style best friends and more which you can watch in his full media availability. Another day of camp gets going this morning.
Note II: Yesterday was the deadline for players to file for arbitration and the Jets had two players file (Vilardi & Barron) while three players (Samberg, Stanley & Chisholm) did not. One of the players who did not was Dylan Samberg and that was because he and the Jets had agreed to a two-year contract.
Note III: Couple of departures to take note of including Karson Kuhlman signing with the Islanders and I missed Arvid Holm heading west as he signed with the Avalanche.
Note IV: It isn’t just the Jets who are making announcements as their AHL affiliate announced that they had signed their captain Jimmy Oligny for the 2022-23 season.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets prospects McGroarty, Barlow clicked from the get-go. As I wrote above this duo gives off a very Step Brothers vibe.
Winnipeg Sun: Lucius looks forward with latest injury nearly past him. This is going to be a big year for the Minnesota product.
Winnipeg Free Press: Exuberant top-prospect McGroarty sees bright future with Jets. (Paywall). The character flows out of this kid.
Winnipeg Free Press: DiVincentiis signs on the dotted line. (Paywall). Jets got themselves a good one in the last round of the 2022 draft.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Where Brossoit, Namestnikov and Iafallo fit Jets depth chart 1.0: Where Brossoit, Namestnikov and Iafallo fit. (Paywall). Missed this from Murat as he gives you a look at the state of the Jets with the latest additions.
NHL.com: Personalities shine through as Development Camp begins. There is a youthful enthusiasm from this group.
NHL.com: McGroarty thrilled to get familiar with Winnipeg during development camp. One of the things missing the last year was the opportunity to introduce players to Winnipeg during the summer. It’s important for players to know it isn’t always cold but jokes aside it’s important to help them familiarize themselves with the ‘Peg.
