Memorial Cup Media Availability – Winnipeg Jets prospect Brad Lambert

A chat with the Finnish forward.

This was recorded prior to the start of the Memorial Cup on Friday but I thought Jets fans might find it insightful as 2022 1st rounder Brad Lambert was chatting in Kamloops, BC about a number of topics as he and his WHL Champion Thunderbirds look to win the first ever Memorial Cup for Seattle. His club won their first game last night (he had an assist) as they defeated Peterborough 6-3. They will take on Quebec on Monday.

They discussed:

1) A sense of how they are feeling.
2) On the Thunderbirds being considered a favourite to win.
3) Keys to winning this type of tournament?
4) What makes his line with Reid Schaefer and Dylan Guenther click?
5) How good for him was it to come play in the WHL?
6) Was there a possibility he could go back to Finland?
7) Whose decision was it?
8) What did he learn playing this season in North America?
9) Did this season in junior help prepare him for next year?
10) His thoughts on teammate Jared Davidson?

Quotable:

Lambert on playing in the WHL with Seattle:

“Obviously it was a bit of a disappointment at the time but now I just try to make the most out of the opportunity. We have an unbelievable group of guys and to win the championship was unbelievable and now to get this experience is great. So I’m happy.”.

Lambert was asked if there was a possibility of going back to Finland when he didn’t stick with Jets/Moose and whether he thought about it:

“No”

Lambert was asked if it was Jets decision:

“At the start of the year when I went there I said I’ll play wherever they think is best and this is what they thought was best. Just try to play my game wherever I am, do the best I can and make the most out of the opportunity.”

Lambert on the differences playing in North America spoke about the structure being different than it is in Europe. But for him a benefit:

“Transition game is one of my strengths and there’s more of that here so I can play with more speed.”
