Moose defeat division leading Stars in overtime in 2000’s themed game

Recap of the Moose game.

The Moose came into this two-game series with the Stars having split the previous series with the Wolves.

The big question mark was whether the team would get any of the day-to-day guys (Jansen Harkins, Cole Maier & Evan Polei) back for the game after the three missed the last couple of games.

Lineup news:

The three day-to-day guys remained out of the lineup today. Manitoba only made two changes giving Arvid Holm the net and inserting Joseph Nardi for Bryden Burke.

Moose lineup:

Limoges – Toninato – Boland
Malott – Bongiovanni – Reichel
Jones – Nikkanen – Torgersson
Nadri – Meireles – Johnson

Chisholm – Gawanke
Sautner – Stewart
Lundmark – Bauer

Holm
Salminen

Notable:

After a less than stellar game during the week the Moose began this game on time holding a 5-0 shot edge five minutes into the opening period of play with a number of good scoring chances including this one by Alex Limoges, which didn’t result in a goal but was likely a sign that he was gonna be a player in this contest.

Defenceman Leon Gawanke blocked a shot on the penalty kill which likely hit a nerve because he was down and needed help off the ice and then to the room but the good news for Manitoba was he was back to start the middle frame.

However the Stars aren’t the top team in the Central Division by accident and they eventually scored on the power play to take a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.

The penalty calling was somewhat odd illustrated by what appear to be identical plays but one results in a penalty and one does not (my opinion was that neither were really meriting of a call).

Jets prospect Daniel Torgersson (2020 2nd) was in need of a goal and so were the Moose so his goal to tie the game just past the midpoint of the 2nd period was timely.

After giving up the lead the Moose were able to comeback courtesy of the smooth-skating of Declan Chisholm who fired a puck over to Alex Limoges who tied the game on the power play.

It isn’t just offence from Moose All-Star Declan Chisholm as he demonstrates by killing a Stars 2 on 1 from his stomach.

And that was fortunate as the Moose took a 3-2 lead just one one minute later thanks to Tyler Boland‘s fourth goal of the season. He would score his second of the game adding some insurance for Manitoba to make it 4-2 less than five minutes into the 3rd.

The Moose did a good job with the 2000’s themed including the dreaded blue screen of death.

Manitoba wasn’t able to hold the lead however as Texas fought back to tie the game 4-4 which sent the game to OT.

I think it is rathers appropriate that a kid born in 2000 won the 2000’s themed game for the Moose. What a blast for Declan Chisholm who gets the OT winner.

Alex Limoges with a four point (1G 3A) game.

Moose improve to 20-13-2-1 as they defeat the division leading Stars.

Over 5000 fans were in attendance for the game which was a great atmosphere with so many screaming kids enjoying it.
