Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets dim playoff hopes were kept alive last night as they defeated the Habs 4-2 in Montreal to conclude their short, two-game road trip out east. They are off today and back on the ice tomorrow when Mason Appleton will face his former club when the Seattle Kraken come to town.

Note II: The Moose lost Mikey Eyssimont to the Jets on an emergency recall on Monday but most of the team are set to practice this morning out at the IcePlex as they continue to prepare for the IceHogs on Friday afternoon. I will be out at the IcePlex so stay tuned for the latest.

Note III: This weekend CapFriendly reported that the Jets had signed their 2014 4th rounder Henri Nikkanen and 2020 2nd rounder Daniel Torgersson which the team confirmed yesterday. Those contracts start next season but the team also announced that both players have joined the Moose on PTOs for the remainder of the season. More competition for the Calder Cup run. Expectation is they will be in town soon.

Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg: What we’ve learned about path to playing time for Jets’ young players. (Paywall). This is going to be quite a summer for the Jets brain trust as they try to figure out a plan. You’ve got a glut of D prospects who are about to add playoff experience to their resumes in addition to already having strong regular seasons under their belt as a collective group. The only thing is that all the left side prospects are waiver exempt so in theory your arm isn’t as twisted as it could have been. Murat also touches on Nathan Smith signing in Arizona and then some quick hit thoughts.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets complete low-end sweep of Eastern doormats. It is not an unfair point made in that headline that the Jets defeated the 27th and 31st overall teams in the NHL.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets keep flicker of playoff hopes alive with 4-2 win over Canadiens. (Paywall). And they’ve got the 30th ranked Kraken coming in tomorrow which provided they win could artificially inflate the appearance that the playoff line is closer than it might seem. Probably worth reexamining once the four-game road trip through the big boys starts when they take on Florida, Tampa, New York and Carolina.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets ‘D’ comically painful to watch. (Paywall). Mike don’t spare the whip in his most recent column about the Jets blueline.

Global News: Barron scores first as a Jet, Winnipeg defeats Montreal 4-2. The prospect who came to the Jets in the Andrew Copp deal certainly took the door which was opened last night when Mark Scheifele didn’t play. He saw opportunity knocking and he answered.

Montreal Gazette: Canadiens’ comeback falls short in loss to Jets. A recap from a writer that covers the Habs.

theScore: Jets roll past Canadiens to keep playoff hopes alive. Check out this recap from the Associated Press writer.

Sportsnet: Montembeault among several other Canadiens developing out of spotlight. He was simply spectacular last night and the score could easily have been 5-0 for the Jets after 20 minutes of play if not for his effort.

NHL.com: Morrissey grows into leader for Jets inspired by memory of late fatherHe is the best suited player to wear a ‘C’ after Blake Wheeler is no longer wearing it as far as I am concerned.

Jets video:

TSN: Button believes Connor is the ‘clear favourite’ to win the Lady ByngAfter the Jets took down the Canadiens on Monday to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, Craig Button joined SportsCentre to share his thoughts on Kyle Connor’s impressive season and Carey Price’s potential return down the stretch.
