2020 Stanley Cup Play-In Series: Flames 4 Jets 1 post-game 1 recap

Post-game from Jets players as well as from Coach Maurice following game 1 of their play-in series.

The loss of Mark Scheifele to what looked like a really bad injury set the stage for a difficult night for the Jets in Edmonton to conclude a wild day of play-in hockey.  After Andrew Copp opened the scoring the Flames dominated the game and rolled to a 4-1 win.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

Jets lost Mark Scheifele in the 1st period;
Jets lost Patrik Laine in the middle of the 3rd period.

Post-game interviews:

Coach Maurice topics:  What was his impression of the play when Mark Scheifele got hurt? What did he think of the way his team responded?  Not generating much offensively 5 on 5.  How much did the injury to Mark Scheifele take the wind out of the sails of his team?  The struggle of the power play tonight.  What happened to Patrik Laine?  Juggling lines early on in the game.  Did he discuss the Tkachuk hit on Scheifele with officials?  Did the lack of fans impact the game?  Is there an update on Scheifele or Laine?  Does he believe Tkachuk intentionally tried to hurt his player?  Are there positives he can take to get ready for game 2?

Injury Updates:

While we wouldn’t expect updates coach Maurice did indicate that both Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine will need to see specialists on Sunday.

Up Next:
