There hasn’t been much in the way of news lately regarding Dustin Byfuglien and the Winnipeg Jets. Both sides were expected to agree to a mutual termination of contract but obviously with the current COVID-19 pandemic this has been on the backburner. Five days ago during a video chat TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger said this:

It is nearing an end James but obviously given current events it’s not top priority for all involved.  What I know is that the National Hockey League is scheduled to discuss the situation with the Winnipeg Jets in the very near future.  Now the Players Association, the league, the player and the Winnipeg Jets are all aligned on the termination agreement but it hasn’t been executed yet and because of that the Winnipeg Jets aren’t in a position to announce but the detail work between the league and the Winnipeg Jets is expected to be ironed out in the near future.

It was over two months ago (February 3rd) when Frank Seravalli of TSN indicated the parties were working towards a mutual termination of Byfuglien’s contract.

Today during his conference call Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was asked if there was any update with respect to Dustin Byfuglien and he confirmed that there is nothing new to report on that front indicating “Not really to warrant me to get into anything at this point”.
