Melrose announcement coming Tuesday

From ESPN:

ESPN analyst Barry Melrose will be introduced as the Tampa Bay Lightning’s new head coach at a news conference Tuesday.

Melrose has been an ESPN analyst full-time since 1996. He had previously worked as a studio analyst for ESPN’s Emmy Award-winning 1994 Stanley Cup playoff coverage and for ESPN and ESPN2 during the 1995 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Melrose was the head coach of the Los Angeles from 1992-95. In his debut season, his team advanced to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in franchise history.

This move may be somewhat media generated as Melrose is arguably the most well-known hockey personality on television in the United States. While some are skeptical of Melrose’s ability to comeback to coaching after more than a decade away from the game, it is not as if he has never had success before. The slick-haired Saskatchewan native was a successful coach in the CHL and AHL before coming to the NHL and leading the Kings to the Finals.
