Jets top centre Mark Scheifele has come back to the lineup with a vengeance after missing 16 games with an upper-body injury.
Jets Release:
The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Mark Scheifele has been named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week for the week ending Feb. 18/18.
Scheifele, 23, led the Jets to three straight wins last week. He scored a pair of goals, including the shorthanded game-tying goal with 14.4 seconds left, and added an assist on the overtime winner in a 4-3 OT win against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. The Kitchener, Ontario native had a trio of assists in a 6-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday before notching the game winning goal in the Jets 7-2 victory over the Panthers on Sunday. In total, Scheifele had seven points (3G, 4A) and a plus-seven rating in the three games.
On the season, Scheifele has 46 points (18G, 28A) and a plus-15 rating in just 43 games played. He returned on Feb. 9 after missing 16 games with an upper body injury. He is tied for second on the Jets with 46 points and trails just Blake Wheeler for the team lead in assists with 28.
This is the third time in his career that Scheifele has been selected in the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week after he was twice selected as Second Star for the week: once on Mar. 7/16 and also on Nov. 14/16. He joins Connor Hellebuyck (Jan. 2 – First Star and Jan. 22 – Second Star), Blake Wheeler (Dec. 4 – First Star), and Nikolaj Ehlers (Oct. 16 – First Star) as members of the Jets that have earned NHL Three Stars of the Week honours this season.
