Winnipeg Jets Jacob Trouba out 6-8 weeks with lower-body injury

The Jets defence took a hit last week when Dmitry Kulikov was injured against the Sharks and Tobias Enstrom wasn’t at 100%.  While Enstrom ended up playing on Thursday in Anaheim, the injury to Kulikov necessitated the recall of Tucker Poolman to the Jets.  I thought it was curious when the Jets returned Lemieux/Hutchinson to the Moose during the NHL All-Star break and not Poolman but thought perhaps Kulikov wasn’t sufficiently healthy to take a risk with Poolman.

Now it looks like Poolman won’t be going back to the Moose anytime soon with the news which Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun broke this evening, that Jacob Trouba had sustained an ankle injury in overtime on Thursday against the Ducks and could miss six to eight weeks.  You can read Ken’s full article in the Winnipeg Sun here: Trouba joins Jets list of walking wounded.

This news comes on the same day fans were seeing Mark Scheifele, who himself was lost to injury on December 28th for six to eight weeks, on the ice at IcePlex skating with his teammates during an informal workout.

We will have to wait till tomorrow when coach Maurice speaks following skate to find out the full extent of the injury to the Jets top pairing defenceman.

Update:

Jets coach Paul Maurice confirmed after practice on Monday that Trouba would be out with a lower-body injury and that it could cost the defenceman anywhere from six to eight weeks.  Said it occurred during overtime of the Ducks game when Trouba got tangled along the wall.

You can listen to his scrum here.
