Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets players and team brass have completed their end of season meetings, including coach Paul Maurice and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff who both spoke yesterday.

Note II:  The Moose had the day off yesterday following a successful final home stand of the season (3-0-1).  Today they return to the ice for practice at 11 am at the IcePlex as they get ready to leave for the final road trip of the season.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets have come a long way. Now what?  If this team isn’t a playoff team by this time next year then you can bet heads will be rolling because there is no way the status quo will save anyone.

Winnipeg Sun:  Coach Paul Maurice ready for what comes.  He certainly didn’t seem overly concerned by the lack of security that a longer contract could provide.  Of course with all the coaches losing jobs with time left on their existing contracts there is only so much “security” with a contract past the next season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Vision for future taking shape.  (Paywall).  There is a weariness in this fan base as they are not prepared to see such a talented team continue to fail.  The Jets GM is prepared to accept their frustration in the near term to allow for the growing pains necessary to have his long term vision realized.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Maurice isn’t going anywhere.  (Paywall).  At the end of the day it appears the Jets bench boss fulfilled (for the most part) the directive he had from management and if that is the case then it won’t come as much of a surprise that he gets rewarded with another contract.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Chevy defends decision to go with Hellebuyck.  (Paywall).  I don’t know many people who have a problem with the decision to go with Hellebuyck but the choice not to have a veteran netminder to help share the load with the young goalie definitely drew criticism.
