Marek asked Elliotte Friedman on today’s 32 Thoughts Podcast about the coaching carousel. Friedman said (at 52:43 mark) that his expectation is Barry Trotz “starts to let teams know mid to late week.” He then speculated as to whether teams are prepared to wait. Seems odd that folks would wait this long and balk at waiting a few more days.
Went on to say that Jim Montgomery had a good interview with Vegas. Mentioned he was still of interest to Winnipeg and that he had heard that “he would be in the mix in Boston”.
Just after the discussion about the Flyers ended Marek asked about Rick Tocchet and Friedman indicated he wasn’t as likely for Philly but he was on the Golden Knights and Jets list. However he had someone tell him this week that Tocchet could stay with TNT if he’s not crazy about the situation.
He added this about the Jets:
“I think Winnipeg been sending some smokescreens, that their not really sure about Trotz, if he’s the guy for them. I think that’s all like throw us off the scent. I definitely think they’re still very interested and they’ll see where it goes this week.”
The positive news is there could be some movement this week which would likely burst the dam of NHL coaching vacancies once the first domino falls.
